Who Can Apply for the PM Internship Scheme 2025?

The eligibility criteria for the PM Internship Scheme are designed to include a broad spectrum of young Indian talent, focusing on those seeking practical exposure.

  • Nationality and Age: Applicants must be Indian citizens, typically aged between 21 and 24 years as of the application deadline. While some sources mention an age range of 18-24, the predominant information for the PM Internship Scheme (Ministry of Corporate Affairs) points to 21-24 years.
  • Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have completed at least one of the following:
    • Secondary School Certificate (Class 10th pass)
    • Higher Secondary Certificate (Class 12th pass)
    • A diploma from a Polytechnic Institute
    • A certificate from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI)
    • A graduation degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA, BCA, B.Pharma.
  • Employment and Education Status: Applicants should not be currently engaged in full-time employment or full-time education. However, candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programs are generally eligible.
  • Family Income: The annual family income (self, spouse, or parents) should not exceed ₹8 lakh for the Financial Year 2023-24.
  • Exclusions: Certain categories are generally ineligible:
    • Graduates from premier institutions like IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs, or IIITs.
    • Those holding advanced qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, or any master’s or higher degree.
    • Individuals currently undergoing any skill, apprenticeship, internship, or training program under Central or State Government schemes.
    • Those who have already completed an apprenticeship under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
    • If any family member is a permanent or regular government employee (excluding contractual employees).

Stipend and Benefits

The PM Internship Scheme offers financial support to interns throughout their tenure, along with other significant benefits.

  • Monthly Stipend: Selected interns receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 for the entire 12-month duration of the internship. Out of this, ₹4,500 is directly transferred to the intern’s Aadhaar-linked bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) by the Government of India, and ₹500 is contributed by the partner company.
  • One-Time Grant: A one-time joining grant of ₹6,000 is provided to interns upon joining the program, intended to assist with initial onboarding and living expenses.
  • Insurance Coverage: Interns are provided with insurance coverage under government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
  • Real-World Experience: The primary benefit is gaining hands-on work experience in top companies across various sectors, including IT, banking, manufacturing, oil & gas, retail, and more. This experience bridges the gap between academic knowledge and practical industry requirements.
  • Skill Development & Networking: The scheme focuses on enhancing soft skills, technical knowledge, and workplace etiquette, while also providing valuable networking opportunities with industry mentors and professionals.
  • Certificate of Completion: Upon successful completion of the 12-month internship, participants receive an official certificate from the Government of India, adding significant value to their resumes.

Application Steps for PM Internship Scheme 2025

The application process for the PM Internship Scheme is primarily online and designed to be user-friendly. The second round of registrations for 2025 is expected to open soon, likely in August.

  1. Visit the Official Portal: Go to the official website for the PM Internship Scheme, which is pminternship.mca.gov.in.
  2. Register: Click on the “Register” or “Youth Registration” button on the homepage. You will need to provide basic details, including your mobile number (preferably Aadhaar-linked) and email address. Verify your mobile number with an OTP.
  3. Create Your Profile: Fill in the registration form with your personal information, educational qualifications, and preferred internship choices. Based on your inputs, the system will generate a resume.
  4. Upload Documents: Upload required documents such as your Aadhaar card and educational certificates (completion/final examination/assessment certificates). Ensure all details are accurate, as Aadhaar-based details are auto-fetched and generally cannot be edited.
  5. Apply for Internships: Browse through the available internship opportunities. You can apply for up to five internships based on your preferences regarding location, sector, functional role, and qualifications.
  6. Submit Application: Review your application details carefully and then click on submit.
  7. Save Confirmation: Download and keep a hard copy of the confirmation page for future reference.

It is important to ensure your bank account is Aadhaar-seeded to receive the stipend and grants. The selection process typically involves shortlisting based on academic qualifications, skills, and a Statement of Purpose (SOP). Some companies might also conduct interviews or aptitude tests. The scheme emphasizes diversity and inclusion in its selection process.
