Bajaj Auto Limited has cemented its position as a global automotive powerhouse. Just recently, the Indian auto major announced the completion of the long-planned Bajaj KTM acquisition, a transformative deal valued at approximately €800 million. This move transitions Bajaj from being a long-standing minority investor to the dominant controlling shareholder of the Austrian performance motorcycle empire.
The transaction, which concluded on November 18, 2025, involved Bajaj’s subsidiary acquiring 100% of Pierer Bajaj AG (PBAG). Consequently, through this entity, Bajaj Auto now holds a substantial 74.9% controlling stake in Pierer Mobility AG (PMAG), the parent company of KTM AG. This landmark achievement, secured after final regulatory approvals from European commissions, marks a historic shift in the global two-wheeler hierarchy.
Corporate Identity Transformation
This acquisition is leading to a major corporate identity overhaul. Therefore, to reflect the new ownership structure, two key entities are being renamed. Pierer Bajaj AG will become Bajaj Auto International Holdings AG. More significantly for the public, Pierer Mobility AG (PMAG), which is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and the Vienna Stock Exchange, will be rebranded as Bajaj Mobility AG. This name change symbolically places Bajaj at the forefront of the premium motorcycle segment, giving it a direct hand in shaping future strategy and operations for KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas.
The Road Ahead: Indian Influence and Synergy
Bajaj Auto’s controlling stake offers immediate strategic advantages. Crucially, the Indian company will now consolidate KTM’s results into its financial statements, giving it an active role in driving an operational turnaround. Analysts suggest that increased manufacturing of lower-engine capacity bikes may shift to India, leveraging Bajaj’s proven cost-efficiency model while maintaining KTM’s commitment to premium quality. Furthermore, with the Pierer Group’s exit from the holding company, the boards of PBAG, PMAG, and KTM will be reconstituted, signaling a new era of Bajaj-led global expansion and synergy.
