The number of deaths due to consuming cough syrup has increased to 20. The case rose from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where children who consumed Coldrif syrup died. Parents were devastated, and they are helpless to find accountability for their children’s deaths.
Till now, only one paediatrician has been arrested from a government hospital in this case. Other individuals responsible for these tragic incidents have yet to be questioned and arrested. The cough syrup Coldrif has been examined, and the results show a positive presence of Diethylene Glycol (DEG). This chemical is extremely toxic and can cause kidney failure.
Who is responsible for these tragic deaths of children?
While police are doing their job by investigating the real culprit behind these horrific deaths. They are yet to find the real culprit and the sources involved in making the cough syrup toxic. Police have arrested a doctor named Praveen Soni from Madhya Pradesh. However, the medical association is highly against this decision of doctors’ arrest in this case. They are questioning the accountability of the pharmaceutical companies and drug regulators in making this toxic syrup.

The deaths due to the cough syrup are increasing day by day despite the investigations. Parent are extremely worried about their children’s health and are concerned about seeking medical help.
20 children have died due to the consumption of cough syrup, and four have died within 24 hours in Madhya Pradesh.
In Rajasthan, cough syrup death cases have been discovered. Similarly, other states like Punjab, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand reacted to this incident by banning Coldrif syrup in their state.
A few drug inspectors, namely, Chhindwara Gaurav Sharma and Sharad Kumar Jain, were suspended by the CM of MP(Mohan Yadav).
Kids who consumed the syrup had their samples collected by the health ministry. So far, 10 results came, and nine were up to the quality, while one was suspicious. In addition, the health ministry has also started inspecting the drug manufacturing industries in other states of India.
In Maharashtra, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has banned the sale and use of Coldrif syrup. The syrup has been found as a toxic chemical causing deaths in children.
