G Ranganathan, the man who is responsible for the deaths of multiple children in Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh, has been arrested in the Cough Syrup Death Case at his residence in Chennai.

Accordingly, a team of seven members arrested the owner of a pharma company after their cough syrup, ‘Coldrif’, was found to be contaminated and did not meet standards.
The deaths of many children are claimed in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh after consuming Cough Syrup. Afterwards, officers said that the accused was transported to Kancheepuram district after being taken into custody, where his Pharmaceutical Company is located.
What is the Cough Syrup Death Case
Recently, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan registered deaths of some children. On intensive investigation, the use of cough syrup containing a large quantity of toxic chemicals came to notice.
Meanwhile, the Police found that Sresan Pharmaceuticals, owned by G Ranganathan, manufactured that syrup. The investigation team found that the manufacturing was unhygienic. Despite the permissible limit of industrial liquid of 0.1%, the team found 48% in the syrup.
The company lacks Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification, which resulted in the Cough Syrup Death Case tragedy. The order to stop the production has been issued with effect, and the company’s licence has been suspended.
What’s next in the Cough Syrup Death Case?
“The production of drugs is under the supervision of State Drug Controllers,” the Union Health Ministry Officials said in a statement. The final decision on license cancellation depends on the State Drug Controller, as licenses are issued by them.
