Sweden’s Karolinska Institute announced the Nobel Prize 2025 for Physiology or Medicine on Monday for groundbreaking discoveries in the field of the Immune System, appreciating their work concerning peripheral immune tolerance.

The Nobel Prize Committee recognized their immense work and announced a prestigious award to three researchers, Mary E Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell, and Shimon Sakaguchi, displaying their portraits at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
The award will be presented to them in December 2025, as they will share a total amount of 11 million Swedish kronor ($1.17m) equally. They will also receive gold medals from the King of Sweden.
Explorations of their work
Two scientists, Brunkow and Ramsdell, both 64, are from the United States, and the third, Sakaguchi, 74, is from Japan. The Nobel Prize committee expressed that their research will be helpful in treating many complex autoimmune diseases, including dangerous cancers.
